Despite the recent message about G/O Media “reevaluating” the deletion of user posts, I’m going to continue archiving a bunch of stuff before it can disappear “in the coming weeks”. Good thing I’ve never been much of a shitposter. Makes it much easier to go through my stuff and pick out the ones worth saving.
(Special thanks to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for that helpful browser extension!)
I won’t be archiving my JRitS roundups, but there are other posts that I put a lot of work into and am particularly proud of, like these:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I also want to keep my project posts & write-ups:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Come to think of it, posts that got shared to Jalopnik are going away too, aren’t they? !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! got published to Jalopnik, so it’s probably safe. But I guess I better archive these shared ones too while I’m at it:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Enough about me, though. There has been some great content here over the years and I want to save that too:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
No doubt I’m forgetting a lot of great posts. What else ought to be preserved? Share links to your favorites in the comments below.

I might do my “mule vs. prototype” one, but it’s not really long form so I could probably just put another one together if needed.

That washing machine post was golden especially after I saw this.
Good times

I remember that! Was sad to see it disappear. I hope you just un-published it to drafts or something instead of deleting it altogether.

There’s so much, but I’m glad you’re taking a stab at it.
I would like to save my Oppocrumb Tinies series. Maybe that’s a little vain (it is shitposting after all), but I got a lot of giggles out of the responses, and I’d hate to lose them.

I wouldn’t even know where to start...I have probably 20,000 - 30,000 posts here over the years, including maybe 100 of my more “formal” satire pieces (of which I have drafts in Word, usually) . This was always a place that, no matter who the owners, I could count on them to host and archive everything.
Ah, well. Hold on loosely, etc.

I remember finding out that a hell of a lot of people like to post videos of their washing machines. Then I realized I had spent almost an hour watching videos of washing machines.
I looked at the profiles of a couple of those people and they seemed to be borderline autistic.
then I remembered that I had spent almost an hour watching videos of washing machines.

Im trying to figure out how to use MHTML to save everything since that definitely seems pretty easy and keeps things in the original format as posted on kinja. Just a pain to get it to work in Chrome or Firefox and I hate hate hate IE for anything. But I will just have to sit down for a few hours and suffer through it some night this week. Too many trips I have written up and compiled here on Oppo mainly for my own memories, sure I have the photos all backed up but the stories with the curated photos are worth saving for sure. I should have backed them up a long time ago but the second best time to do something that I should have done is certainly now!

Yeah there’s a chance that this might end up being a false alarm, but I’m not taking that risk.

Exactly my stance on it. Its not a bad idea to have backups regardless. Other disasters could always occur causing some sort of server reset or whatever. Would definitely feel like a loss to lose some of the stuff. Sure there is a ton of junk that is fine to lose but at least a dozen or so posts I would absolutely hate to lose.
